On this web site you will find resources pertinent to the development and use of Linux clusters in the University of Delaware College of Engineering. This site was developed and is maintained by Jeffrey Frey, the cluster manager for the College.

All of us at the University communicate via email. One of the ways for all faculty, students, and staff who are involved in the UDCECC initiative to keep in touch and disseminate information in a timely fashion is by means of email lists. Any announcements of available CPU time or new software availability; requests for cooperative licensing of products or libraries; and general administrative announcements, like system downtime, will be made via these lists.

There are several lists that have been created, centering on the key issues that will be addressed by each (click the list name to be taken to a subscription page):

• udcecc-admin: Membership to this list is limited to CITAs, faculty/staff cluster owners, and student cluster admins. The list will be used exclusively for administrative requests/notifications.
• udcecc-user: Membership to this list is not limited. Discussions on this list should pertain to general cluster usage as well as software usage.
• udcecc-dev: Join this list if you develop software for use on Linux clusters. Discussions on this list should revolve around parallel programming techniques for Linux clusters.

Membership and posts to the administrative list are reviewed by the list moderator.

Administrative Info

• The majority of our clusters use the Warewulf clustering software suite. Documentation regarding how to setup (for the admin) and how to use (for the end-user) is available here.
• As of June 2007 I’m transitioning from Warewulf to PERCEUS for cluster provisioning. PERCEUS is the evolution of Warewulf and is very different in terms of setup of a cluster. Documentation of my first encounter with PERCEUS setup is available.
• Sun GridEngine is our queue system of choice on our clusters. Setup details and end-user documentation is available here.
